Revolutionary Large Format 3D Printing Grade Ingeo PLA 3D700: Transforming Metal Casting Manufacturing for Shanghai TuoZhuo

Case Studies

Metal casting is a way to make metal parts by pouring liquid metal into molds, usually used for making special or irregular pieces that would be costly to make with other methods.

Traditionally, wood has been used for making molds in metal casting. But wood has its drawbacks. 3D printed molds are better than wooden ones because they're faster and cheaper to make, easier to maintain, and produce smoother and stronger molds. They also last longer. 3D printed molds, especially those made with Ingeo PLA, are more environmentally friendly because they have a much smaller carbon footprint than plastic like ABS. However, there can be challenge of the material warping, causing problems like the print coming off the bed or separating between layers. This can be costly in terms of wasted material and time, especially for large prints.

Ingeo, a special 3D printing material, has proven to be very useful in creating large metal casting molds. Shanghai TuoZhuo, a company focused on 3D printing materials, used Ingeo 3D700 to make molds for metal bumpers and forklift counterweights. They printed these molds directly without needing extra support structures. The Ingeo material didn't warp or deform, and the Ingeo 3D700 even outperformed regular PLA grades that weren't specifically designed for large printing.
