Unveiling the Miraculous Performance of Ingeo™ PLA in Large Format 3D Printing: Crystal Court River Rock Seating
Case Studies
Published on November 15, 2022
Two Minneapolis firms revamped the IDS Center's Crystal Court in downtown Minneapolis. One challenge was making the benches more flexible and eco-friendlier without blocking foot traffic or the serene atmosphere of the area. They used environmentally responsible materials to create an indoor natural oasis by chosing 3D-printed furniture for the Crystal Court because it could be customized easily and was lightweight. They used a biobased material called Ingeo and wood fiber for the seating because it was cost-effective and offered better precision and sustainability. Ingeo is made from renewable plant sugars, has a small carbon footprint, and requires less energy to produce compared to petrochemical plastics. These Ingeo Crystal Court benches are a success in terms of both technology and design. They showcase responsible material sourcing and innovative architecture, providing a model for socializing and engaging with the community.
